Glorious weather yesterday and again this morning. So leaving at 7.30am this morning, I took the camera with me once again on my way down to work in Kaohsiung county. Here is the view toward the Hsinta power plant from the 5th floor of the building at about 8am, taken using the 18mm lens...
Here is the hazier close up of the two flue chimneys and four furnaces using the 250mm, again at about 8 o'clock in the morning...
I returned to the same spot to take more pictures two hours later...
The shot below includes a giant dome to the left of the four furnaces, which is presumably a cooling water reservoir...
I'd like to go and visit the site up close at some point; the electrostatic precipitators used to desulphurize the flue gases and remove heavy metals will be located on the other side of those boilers just in front of the flue chimneys...
I should try to find out whether they have fabric filters installed in the flue chimneys yet for the removal of mercury from the flue gases. I'll have to find out...

I'm going to contradict you a bit on those dome structures and speculate that they are indoor coal storage rather than cooling water. The dome structure is one of four and the kind of volume they occupy would be an insane amount of cooling water storage. I believe the plant uses ocean water for cooling so there isn't much of a need to store the stuff. For confirmation google earth sat images seem to show a conveyor belt system feeding them rather that any evidence of piping.
ReplyDeleteKruzick - I checked that, and I think you're almost certainly right.
