  1. Nice pic, but that looks suspiciously like an English sparrow, and, if so, I don't think it belongs in Taiwan. Want to borrow my BB gun?

    It might not be a bad idea to try barbecuing one or two to see what they taste like.

  3. Mike, you'd probably need at least half-a-dozen or so to barbecue to actually determine what they taste like (chicken?).

    I could have a half-a-dozen or so ready to ship to you by tomorrow.

    I recommend Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce for them.

    Tell you what, there's a shop downtown sells BB guns - I'll see if I can pop in there next month and get myself a rifle. I'll shoot a few dozen, barbecue them and see what they're like. I imagine they'll taste better if I had to do the shooting and plucking myself.

  5. There's more than one species of sparrow in the UK. The house sparrow (that's the one with different-looking females and males) doesn't occur in Taiwan. This pic is the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, and it belongs here at least as much as it does in the UK.

    I doubt very much that it tastes good enough to warrant the effort of plucking and cooking.

  6. Steve: in the gospel of Matthew (KJB), Jesus refers to them as being sold "two for a farthing". I expect they taste like chicken, if not blander.

  7. Well you learn something new everyday.

    I'd recommend cooking them with Jack Daniels barbecue sauce. Everything that has that on it tastes like ribs. I added it to tuna once: tasted just like ribs.

  8. I've never tried it, but if I shot enough of the birds, I could stew them with some veg and maybe 1/3 a small bottle of bourbon.
