Betting On Data Vs Modelling

"My approach was to listen to the data. The approach taken by James Annan was flawed because he didn’t. He imposed a straight line on the data due to theoretical considerations."
In a piece at the Global Warming Policy Foundation recalling his 2007 bet with climate scientist James Annan, David Whitehouse explains why he thinks he won the bet.

Do read the whole thing. And while I'm at it, I may take this opportunity to once again remind readers as to why I am banned from commenting at Michael Turton's blog and his curious decision to subsequently lie about his reason for banning me (see comments).

  1. Continuing your lies about global warming then? Being smarter than 10000 PhDs in climatology?

And, of course, being smarter than the organizer of Davos and more moral than a Catholic cardinal, are we, your Highness Capitalist?

According to Klaus Schwab, the founder and organizer of Davos, this year’s meeting will focus on how to develop a new world model as “capitalism in its current form, has no place in the world around us.”

Italian cardinal brands tax evasion a sin for Catholics
However, now the head of the Italian bishops’ conference, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, has unambiguously declared that “evading taxes is a sin.” He called for “serious, effective and relentless” action against tax dodgers.

The irrefutable physics of global warming
The laws of physics do not surrender to opposition. For the past 35 years global warming has unfolded as predicted by science

But of course to spout forth on climate change, you don't actually need to study it, do you? Just need to read some right-wing blogs, and you are a holier-than-thou scientist now, are we? Well, stupidity cannot be defeated, only laughed at.

The only liar here is you Mr (anonymous) Taipei Times reporter: I am merely commenting on the fact that David Whitehouse won a bet.

"Being smarter than 10000 PhDs in climatology?"

No: being smart is no guarantee of being right.

"...this year’s meeting will focus on how to develop a new world model as “capitalism in its current form, has no place in the world around us.”..."

Or in other words, they are agitating for further Statist controls over economic exchange.

"Italian cardinal brands tax evasion a sin for Catholics..."

The cardinal can go forth and divide by zero for all I care: I'm not a Catholic.

"For the past 35 years global warming has unfolded as predicted by science..."

No, not at all: the predictions were made not by "science", but by particular scientists, e.g. James Annan, whose prediction that temperatures would rise to beyond the 1998 spike between 2007 and 2010 was proven wrong - see my post above. There are numerous other examples of predictions by climate scientists and the IPCC that have proven to be wrong.

"But of course to spout forth on climate change, you don't actually need to study it, do you?"

Of course not, Mr (anonymous) Taipei Times reporter. If technical expertise were a mandatory requirement for the expression of opinion, you would have been defrocked and kicked out of your "job" a long time ago, as you still should be.

"Just need to read some right-wing blogs, and you are a holier-than-thou scientist now, are we?"

The link provided does not go to a "right-wing blog", it goes to the Global Warming Policy Institute, which is a think-tank in London. You have made this claim before, and again in reference to quotes I used which were not actually taken from "right-wing blogs".

"Well, stupidity cannot be defeated, only laughed at."

Take a look in the mirror: you're the clown here, not me.
